Henderson State’s swim team has been one of the few sports that have been able to actively compete and continue practicing during COVID-9 this semester. The Redwave Swim team accepted the invitation to participate in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Fall Virtual Cup which hosts a series of teams throughout the country to compete at their home gym. The first round of events occurred this past week from October 12-17, 2020 and it included the 200 Free Relay, 200 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 100 FreeStyle, and 400 IM.

HSU placed 9 out of 20 with a score of 74 and an average performance of 495.6 points. The Reddies also managed to tally 1 silver medal in the first round which was courtesy of Stephen Jones. Five Reddies each recorded 4 points in the opening round, and they are Stephen Jones, Oscar Patten, Ty Gibbs, Alec Adams, and Jason Seiner.

The men’s team is currently ranked in fourth place in terms of medals earned and average performance points behind Grand Canyon, Swarthmore, and Northern Michigan. However, in terms of points scored, they rank 7th. The women’s team also ranks 7th in average performance points behind Kansas, Grand Canyon, Hillsdale, Northern Michigan, Dixie, and Swarthmore.
