Geoff Keighley Announces Summer Game Fest

Matthew Jones, Contributing Reporter

Organizer and host of The Game Awards Geoff Keighley has announced Summer Game Fest, a summer-long all-digital event that promises to deliver fans breaking news, in-game events, and free playable content.

Game Fest, which runs from May to August of 2020, has confirmed there will be announcements for games and platforms from these following companies:

“2K Games”, “Activision”, “Bandai Namco”, “Bethesda”, “Blizzard Entertainment”, “Bungie”, “CD Projekt Red”, “Digital Extremes”, “Electronic Arts”, “Microsoft”, “Sony Interactive Entertainment”, “Square Enix”, “Private Division”, “Riot Games”, “Steam”, and “Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment”.

This is just the first phase of Game Fest,  Keighley also said that additional publishers will be announced in the coming weeks. During this festival, “Steam”, “Xbox”, and “other platforms” will give fans the chance to play limited demos and trials of select games. Steam’s Game Festival is currently set to run from June 9 to 14, with more platform dates to be announced. According to a press release, more information about Microsoft’s participation will come next week – presumably following Xbox’s special Series X-focused Inside Xbox stream that is happening on May 7.

Streams of the Summer Game Fest will be broadcasted across Facebook, Mixer, Twitch, Twitter, YouTube, and other outlets. Keighley will host pre- and post-shows for marquee publisher events. Keighley is also partnering with iam8bit to produce a showcase event to highlight upcoming games.

The entire Summer Game Fest leads up to Gamescom: Opening Night Live on August 24, which will serve as a “spectacular, industry-wide finale” to the digital event season.
