Henderson fought to the end with Southwestern Oklahoma State University, as the game ended in a tough loss.

Both teams started the game struggling offensively going 0-14 from the three-point line. The Reddies managed to shoot better from the floor which helped tie the game 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Tensions started to soar before halftime for HSU as Senior Guard Pink Jones, Senior Guard Hailey Estes, and Junior Guard Lani Snowden got into foul trouble. The fouls didn’t stop there for Henderson State as Head Coach Jill Thomas picked up a technical foul.

Despite the number of fouls called on HSU, they still found themselves tied with the Bulldogs at 30. Free throws helped Henderson’s offensive game evolve along with a couple of three-pointers.

The Reddies found themselves in an uphill battle as they started to trail SWOSU by a few points. The bench gave them a spark multiple times throughout the second half.

Henderson went a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line as they overcame the deficit late in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

The extra period didn’t favor HSU as they fall by 7 to Southwestern in a final score of 70-77. A few seniors gave their input on the expectations of the following game and the overall goal of the last home game of the season.

“Hopefully a lot of people come out and support and I think we are all just gone have a lot of energy and momentum going into that game and a lot of excitement. It’ll be bittersweet obviously, a lot of emotions but we just want to go out with a win” Senior Guard Madi Nichols.

“I just told them as seniors we don’t get to look back on this and just be like oh we got next year to do it, no this is the year to do it like we made so many mistakes that could’ve been prevented like a lot of things could’ve been fixed and handled differently, so we just got to regroup and focus better because like I said this is the year to do it. We don’t get another chance to come back” Senior Guard Blu Jones.

The Reddies will look to redeem their home loss on senior day Saturday, February 22, 2020 against Northwestern Oklahoma State University at 1:00 pm.
