The football world is in utter shock with the recent blindsiding news of Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement announcement. Luck was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts back in the 2012 draft and managed to stay with them for a total of six years. After coming off a season that birthed a playoff appearance it’s pretty puzzling as to why one of the NFL top quarterbacks is calling it quits.

During Lucks press conference he had this to say, “For the last four years or so, I’ve been in this cycle of injury, pain, rehab, injury, pain, rehab, and it’s been unceasing, unrelenting, both in season and off season, and I felt stuck in it. The only way I see out is to no longer play football.” (ESPN, 2019). Luck is definitely no stranger when it comes to injury seeing as how he has had his fair share. The most recent one being a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder which most likely lead to his decision to call it quits.

Not only is this a big surprise to the NFL its almost an even bigger surprise to the fans that support it. “It doesn’t make sense to me, he’s only 29.” Khalil Hill, Senior Sports Management said.  In only a few short years, he’s managed to have an impressive career. “They just made the playoffs, why would you leave after making the playoffs?” Shaun Williams-Hart, Senior Physical Education major said. Luck may not be the only professional athlete to leave during his prime but with an up and coming team like the Colts there is certainly some eyebrows left risen.
