The Reddies opened their season hosting the Reddie-Tiger invitational, out of their two matches on Friday, Henderson won their first and lost their second. Saturday they did the same beating St. Edwards  3-2 and falling to the University of Texas at Tyler three sets to two.

Every set was competitive, each being within five points of each other.

After the final match of the invitational, Coach McDaniel said throughout the invitational, the team “Showed flashes of good play.”

The Reddies played four talented opponents, three of the four matches the Reddies played went to a fifth set. Coach McDaniel said those close losses were do to a “Lack of focus in certain spots.”

Despite the lack of focus Coach McDaniel was pleased with the way older players played in their new roles and how the freshman played. He said the freshman seemed “unphased in the environment.” He also said he was pleased with the way they got the middle of their team going. He feels that area is a strength of the team.

Last season the Reddies started the season 2-2 before going on to win 13 straight matches.

HSU will next play in the DBU/Texas Women’s Crossover on September 13 and 14.
