The Henderson State Reddies and the No. 21 Southern Arkansas Muleriders played in the 2018 Murphy USA Classic. Henderson came in to the game on a four-game winning streak. The Reddies kicked the ball off to begin the game.

SAU took the opening possession down to the Reddie 19-yard line but stalled out and had to kick a field goal and took a 3-0 lead. When Henderson got the ball, they went three and out and had to punt the ball back. SAU completed a pass to the Henderson nine-yard line but once again could not get the ball into the end-zone and had to kick another field goal. Henderson began to move the ball into Southern Arkansas territory but threw an interception on the third down. The Muleriders capitalized on the turnover and ran the ball in for a touchdown. SAU led 13-0 and began to run up the score on the Reddies.

At half time the Muleriders led 34-0. In the second half the Reddies finally got on the scoreboard when Malik Brown got a pick 6 and ran it back 104 yards. The longest interception return in Henderson State history. In the fourth quarter the Reddies scored again when Kody Whitaker connected with John Murray for a six-yard touchdown. The final score was 34-14.

SAU was better than HSU in every statistical category, the biggest being total yardage in which Southern Arkansas outgained Henderson State 487 yards to 155 yards. They also held the ball much longer. With a 42:39 to 17:21 advantage.

Henderson will look to get back to their winning ways when they take on the University of Monticello Boll Weevils, Saturday November 3rd at 2 p.m. It will also be military appreciation day. That will be the last game before they take on the Ouachita Baptist Tigers in the Battle of the Ravine. Henderson is in fourth place in the Great American Conference. They are currently four games back from first place with only two games left and having lost the head to head against the teams in front of them, fourth place is the best they can hope for. The Reddies do have an important game coming up against Ouachita Baptist, who are currently undefeated and ranked No. 4 in the country.

The season started off rocky for the Redddies when they started the season 1-3. They began to right the ship when they went on a four game winning streak. They are 5-4 and can end the season with winning record if they win one of the next two games.
